Designing With SketchUp

May & June 2008

6-30-2008 Ardor

Working on my abstract sculptures.

6-28-2008 A Couple More Abstracts

I'm just continuing to explore what shapes are possible with SdS and FFD.

6-27-2008 Mating Games

Inspired by the mating games being carried out by birds observed from our deck. That, and just playing.

6-24-2008 Proxy Battle

Getting Subdivide and Smooth out of my system!

6-22-2008 Variations on a Theme

Ahhhhh, summer!

6-22-2008 Boxed Cloud

It makes a nice gift.

6-21-2008 Working Out Some New House Design Ideas

Lots of experimentation going on with this design. It has been interesting working out what to do with the interiors of the arches. Perhaps a fun retirement house that the grand kids would love to visit.

6-17-2008 An Accidental Abstract

While playing around with FFD on complex geometry some interesting and unexpected effects appeared. I applied a few textures for fun. Odd and a bit painterly, in a non-representational sort of way.

6-9-2008 Moore House with Screening Added

The screens soften the floor edges and echo the original driving shape.

6-8-2008 Moore House with Less Texture and Moore Texture

Getting closer with these to my original vision.

6-7-2008 More Living with Moore

A different texture for the sculptural elements and roof, along with a background image.

6-6-2008 Living with Moore

A new house design inspired by the sculpture of Henry Moore.

6-1-2008 Continuing Experiments with SdS and Textures

Just some quick variations.

5-31-2008 A Couple More Experiments with Textures Using Transparency

So much for putting them aside. Sheesh.

5-30-2008 More Experiments with Textures Using Transparency

These are kind of addicting so I'm going to try to put them aside for a while.

5-28-2008 More Experiments with Textures Using Transparency

If only the transparency worked with shadows.

5-27-2008 More Abstracts Produced with the SubDivide and Smooth Ruby

I'm also experimenting with transparency and textures.

5-26-2008 Some Work from Memorial Day Weekend

Playing with SketchUp over a beautiful holiday weekend.

5-22-2008 Controlling The New Organic Tools

I've been working on getting a handle on the new organic tools the ruby artists have been providing us. After a fair amount of frustration I'm starting to get some of the control I want. Here is a sample of some recent experiments.

5-17-2008 Building of Frust

A building just right for Qatar. My first architectural design using some of the new organic modeling plugins.

5-14-2008 Moore Abstract Sculpture

A Henry Moore inspired SketchUp virtual sculpture. Made using Dale Marten's astoundingly wonderful Subdivide and Smooth plugin for SketchUp.

5-10-2008 Bubble Building

What is it? It's the Bubble Building.

5-8-2008 Quick Abstract

While working on another project this geometry was produced as a side effect. I thought it was interesting so turned it into a couple of abstracts.

5-3-2008 Spring Curves

A spring inspired SketchUp virtual sculpture. It's called Spring Curves.
