January & February 2008
Late February Some Additional Ribbon Like Artwork
More experiments with projecting textures onto ribbon like geometry.
2-22-2008 Some SketchUp Artwork
These are all different images of the same model. It's an experiment... a design adventure.
2-22-2008 Images of my Submission to the OAN African Challenge
The Open Architecture Network
is sponsoring a design challenge for three different sites. I submitted
a design for the site in Kenya. I learned quite a bit from putting this
proposal together. It made me realize how much I don't know. :-)
2-1-2008 More Non-Representational Work
Produced the
following images this week while continuing to explore the
possibilities of projecting textures onto complex SketchUp geometry.
Some of these are really quite visually interesting.
1-27-2008 Painting with SketchUp
If you
project a texture image at an angle onto a TIN surface, the color that
shows on the surface can be altered by using the Smoove tool to raise
or lower the surface. This can feel almost like finger painting... and
the results are ... unfortunately ... also like finger paintings.
Small
changes in the angle of the face holding the projected texture (or
using the Texture/Position tools) can have a major effect on the image
projected on the TIN. Following are some examples. The final two
images in this set are a little different. They are from models in
which textures are projected onto shapes extruded along complex paths.
More sculptural than painting.
1-25-2008 A New Year
It has
been over a month since I've added any new work. I was sick with a bad
cold for about two weeks and then was busy with my job, so for the past
four weeks I just wasn't able to spend much time on design
explorations. With a new computer (24" iMac) -which is much faster than
the Mac Mini that was my workhorse for two plus years- I hope to push
forward into lots of new territory this year. Following are four images
of models built using this delightful new machine.
